Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Takes Steps Towards an Eco-Friendly Future

By Rachel Green, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
Last week, the Disneyland Resort was honored with a Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award, California’s highest environmental honor, for waste-reduction efforts. The program distinguishes organizations that are leaders in environmental stewardship and that make notable efforts to conserve California’s natural resources. Over the last 10 years, the Disneyland Resort has doubled the amount of waste diverted from landfills, and is working toward the long-term goal of achieving Zero Waste—a distinction already awarded to Circle D Corral at Disneyland park. In addition to recycling paper, cardboard, plastics and metal, Circle D Corral composts all animal waste, hand towels, laundry lint and coffee grounds from Disneyland Resort restaurants.

Contestants were divided into competitive divisions to effectively test their fitness abilities against peers of similar ages and skill level. Workouts included strength tests and cardio-respiratory endurance, as well as traditional push-ups, squats, and sit-ups. Disney Cruise Line Explores New Ports in the Mediterranean

By Christi Erwin Donnan, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
At Disney Cruise Line this year, we expanded our portfolio to offer a wealth of new itineraries with new ports of call in Europe, the Caribbean, and Alaska. This summer, the "Disney Magic" made first calls on ports and cities around the Mediterranean, including Santorini and Corfu in Greece and Ibiza in Spain. Each of these inaugural visits gives us the chance to share in the time-honored maritime tradition of plaque and key exchanges. During these ceremonies, the Captain and shipboard officers welcome port officials and community leaders aboard to exchange plaques and small gifts that mark the ship’s visit to the new port.
