Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Takes Steps Towards an Eco-Friendly Future

Last week, the Disneyland Resort was honored with a Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award, California’s highest environmental honor, for waste-reduction efforts. The program distinguishes organizations that are leaders in environmental stewardship and that make notable efforts to conserve California’s natural resources. Over the last 10 years, the Disneyland Resort has doubled the amount of waste diverted from landfills, and is working toward the long-term goal of achieving Zero Waste—a distinction already awarded to Circle D Corral at Disneyland park. In addition to recycling paper, cardboard, plastics and metal, Circle D Corral composts all animal waste, hand towels, laundry lint and coffee grounds from Disneyland Resort restaurants.

Nominations in all 24 categories of the Academy Awards® were announced this week, and Disney films garnered nine nominations: Actress in a Supporting Role—Meryl Streep, "Into the Woods"; Animated Feature Film—"Big Hero 6," Don Hall, Chris Williams and Roy Conti; Costume Design—"Into the Woods," Colleen Atwood, and Maleficent, Anna B. Sheppard and Jane Clive; Makeup and Hairstyling—Marvel’s "Guardians of the Galaxy," Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou and David White; Production Design—"Into the Woods," Dennis Gassner (Production Design) and Anna Pinnock (Set Decoration); Short Film (Animated)—"Feast," Patrick Osborne and Kristina Reed; Visual Effects—Marvel’s "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," Dan DeLeeuw, Russell Earl, Bryan Grill and Dan Sudick, and Marvel’s "Guardians of the Galaxy," Stephane Ceretti, Nicolas Aithadi, Jonathan Fawkner and Paul Corbould. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Honored with Prestigious Industry Awards

This week, the Themed Entertainment Associated (TEA) announced the recipients for their 21st annual Thea Awards. These awards seek to acknowledge the outstanding achievements in the themed entertainment industry in addition to the creative talent behind each attraction or experience. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts was honored to receive three awards, including the Thea Classic award for Disneyland’s "it’s a small world" attraction in Anaheim, California. Incoming TEA president Steve Birket deemed it’s a small world a “timeless classic,” calling the attraction “a metaphor for our increasingly global industry.”
