Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Celebrates Lunar New Year

By Rachel Green, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
Last week, just in time for Chinese New Year, we shared some exciting news from Shanghai Disney Resort and its Garden of the Twelve Friends—a whimsical area of the theme park that recasts twelve favorite Disney and Disney•Pixar characters as members of the Chinese zodiac. “Jolly Holiday” lambs from Disney’s "Mary Poppins" were selected in honor of the Year of the Sheep. The Garden of the Twelve Friends will feature a garden wall decorated with flowering vines and colorful mosaic vignettes created in collaboration with local Chinese artists and craftsmen, and will resemble a classic Chinese garden where families can gather and relax together.

Disney Teams Up with KaBOOM! on New Playground in McFarland, California

By Janelle Tipton, The Walt Disney Studios
It started out as a few concrete slabs and a mountain of mulch in the middle of a grass and dirt tract running along Highway 99 in the heart of Central California’s agricultural corridor. But in just five-and-a-half hours on a bright Sunday in mid-February, the town of McFarland had a new playground, thanks to a team effort by hundreds of Disney VoluntEARS, partners from nonprofit KaBOOM! and members of the McFarland community.

Disney Employees "Share the Joy" at Family Volunteer Day

By Cynthia Momdjian, The Walt Disney Company
November marks the beginning of the most wonderful time of the year, especially at Disney. Our VoluntEARS are kicking off the season with the “Share the Joy” campaign, which provides volunteering opportunities for Disney employees across the country. The first “Share the Joy” event took place this past Saturday, on Family Volunteer Day, where employees and their families got a head start on spreading holiday cheer in their neighborhoods. Disney Friends for Change—a global initiative that inspires kids and their families to make a lasting, positive change by helping people, communities and the planet—and Points of Light’s generationOn initiative invited mom, dad and kids of all ages to come together for a fun-filled day of service.

Disney VoluntEARS Build New Playspace for Veterans' Families

By Cynthia Momdjian, The Walt Disney Company
Last week, 140 VoluntEARS—a team that consisted of senior leaders, including Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, Heroes Work Here veterans and Golden Oak Ranch staff members—helped transform an empty lot in Santa Clarita, California, into a kid-designed playspace in less than eight hours. Habitat for Humanity volunteers, along with local residents and organizers from KaBOOM!, also lent a hand to make the project come to life. Located on a campus that’s home to veterans’ families, the playground was designed to help former service members and their loved ones make the transition to civilian life.

Disney Parks Cast Members and Guests Join Together to Protect the Planet

By Christi Erwin Donnan, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
At Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, our cast members work together daily to make changes large and small that help us use resources wisely and reduce our impact on the environment. Our goal is to protect the planet for tomorrow and encourage others to do the same, and we are doing this in many ways. Teams around the world are excited to share even more of their passion for the planet with our park guests and fans across the globe with the hope of sparking kids’ imaginations and developing conservation values that they can carry with them through adulthood.
