Disney Teams Up with KaBOOM! on New Playground in McFarland, California

It started out as a few concrete slabs and a mountain of mulch in the middle of a grass and dirt tract running along Highway 99 in the heart of Central California’s agricultural corridor. But in just five-and-a-half hours on a bright Sunday in mid-February, the town of McFarland had a new playground, thanks to a team effort by hundreds of Disney VoluntEARS, partners from nonprofit KaBOOM! and members of the McFarland community.

Disney Selects Black List Writer, New Submission Window Announced

The Walt Disney Studios has added a writer to its Feature Writers Program and launched a new search for yet another talented scribe as part of its collaboration with The Black List to find undiscovered talent and foster diverse perspectives in storytelling. More than 1,000 writers across the globe uploaded scripts to The Black List for consideration during the submission period between March and May of this year. Several of these individuals were recommended to Disney by The Black List, and ultimately Nicole Avenia’s script "The Ice Pond," which was named The Black List Featured Script for February 2014, earned her a spot in the Studios’ Feature Writers Program.

The Inspiration Behind Disney Animation's New Short 'Feast'

“There’s something special about dinner.” According to director Patrick Osborne, that’s the simple inspiration for the charming new Walt Disney Animation Studios short "Feast" that debuts in front of Big Hero 6 this Friday, November 7. With its graphic shapes and bright colors, "Feast," as the title suggests, is a tale about food. But it’s also a love story and a life story experienced through canine eyes, as peppy pup Winston accompanies his human on a relationship roller coaster. “It is one of the first actual shorts done at Disney through our new shorts program,” Patrick says. “Over the past couple years, we’ve had shorts go in front of movies and it became clear that that was something that the studio wanted to keep doing.”
