Disney Celebrates Earth Month

By Cynthia Momdjian, The Walt Disney Company

Yesterday marked the beginning of Earth Month, and it’s a special time for all of us at Disney—and even around the world—as we are reminded of how we can join together and care for the world we share.

Here at Disney, we believe that conservation and caring for the planet are more than just good ideas—they are at the core of who we are. We conserve nature not only by using our resources wisely and reducing our impact in the way we operate our business, but also by protecting wildlife and wild places, and by connecting kids and families to nature to develop lifelong conservation values. Some of my favorite Disney Parks experiences immediately come to mind as examples: Disney’s Animal Kingdom and The Seas with Nemo & Friends attraction inside Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort. At these locations, our employees care for animals and lead health, science, education and conservation programs.

Another way we protect nature is through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF). Since launching in 1995, DWCF supports the study of threatened species, protection of critical ecosystems and development of community conservation and education programs in 112 countries around the world. DWCF also supports nonprofit organizations to create experiences so that kids have the tools and resources they need to spend more time in nature. And just last year, we celebrated the 1,000th DWCF grant, which is an impressive indicator of the positive impact of the program.

Hitting theaters April 18 is Disneynature’s Bears. Through Disneynature’s films, we share wildlife adventures on the big screen in order to engage, inspire and educate audiences everywhere. The series further connects kids and families to nature, and helps them discover and appreciate it's beauty and importance.

As you can see, Earth Month is an exciting celebration for us. We hope that you, too, are inspired to discover and protect nature. Stay tuned to Disney Post for an inside look at our efforts to ensure the health of our planet for future generations to enjoy.
