University Students Honored for Innovation and Creativity in Disney Imagineering's Imaginations Competition

Recently, we introduced the finalist teams and their creative projects for the Walt Disney Imagineering 2015 Imaginations design competition. We’re pleased to share with you the winners from Ringling College of Art & Design (pictured). Their project, “The New Orleans Double Rail,” is a symbol of hope for a city whose greatest challenge is its location below sea level. The lower train uses modern-day projection technology to tell the story New Orleans by creating a magical and unforgettable sightseeing experience as guests soar over the city aboard the suspended Double-Rail train.

Nighttime will glitter like never before when the latest technology and immersive special effects light up the sky with the "Paint the Night" parade and "Disneyland Forever" fireworks spectacular in Disneyland Park.

The Walt Disney Company Announces Second Startup Accelerator Program

The Walt Disney Company announced that it is accepting applications for its second Disney Accelerator program powered by Techstars. Disney Accelerator will select a class of 10 startup companies for a three-month mentorship and investment program beginning July 6, 2015 and concluding with a Demo Day on October 6, 2015. The program is open to technology-based startups with a vision for making an impact on the world of media and entertainment. Participants will be offered $120,000 in investment capital along with mentor support from top Disney executives, entrepreneurs, investors and other notable business leaders from the entertainment and technology communities.

Disney Interactive's Nikki Katz Named STEMConnector 100 Diverse Corporate Leader in 2014

STEMConnector, an organization committed to linking science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education advocates together across disciplines and distances, selected Disney Interactive's Vice President of Technology Nikki Katz for its 100 Diverse Corporate Leaders 2014 list. At Disney Interactive, Nikki leads and shapes the platform services group, which creates large-scale tech solutions that are leveraged across The Walt Disney Company. Nikki recently shared her perspective on STEM education and diversity in the workforce.

Walt Disney Imagineering Fosters Creative Talent Through 'Imaginations' Design Competition

Last week, Walt Disney Imagineering announced the finalists for the Imaginations design competition. Imagineers first started the competition to develop future talent and to provide students an opportunity to showcase their skills. Now in its 24th year, the competition seeks to nurture the next generation of Imagineers and bring fresh perspectives to Walt Disney Imagineering, the design and development arm of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Disney Launches 'Disney Imagicademy'

"Disney Imagicademy"—The Walt Disney Company’s all-new learning initiative designed for families with children ages 3–8—officially launched last week. On December 4, we unveiled "Disney Imagicademy" to media and the general public at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York. Members of the press, consumers and partners attended the event, which kicked off with an onstage presentation featuring Disney executives, "Imagicademy" academic advisors and celebrity mom and "Imagicademy" spokesperson Brooke Burke-Charvet.

60 Local Students Join Disney Interactive Employees for Hour of Code 2014

To kick off the second annual Hour of Code global campaign aimed toward K-12 students during Computer Science Education Week, earlier this week, we opened up our offices in Kelowna, Palo Alto, Seattle and Glendale to local students for an afternoon of coding using the "Disney Infinity" versions of Disney’s "Frozen" characters Anna and Elsa in Code.org’s Hour of Code 2014 signature lesson.
