Disney News This Week: 'The Lone Ranger' Celebrates Local Heroes, 'Disney TRYathlon' Returns, New 'Get A Horse!' Poster

By Cynthia Momdjian, The Walt Disney Company

Hi yo, Silver! My countdown to see The Lone Ranger in theaters has officially begun. This week, I was thrilled to hear that the film’s reach extends beyond the big screen by celebrating local heroes around the country. Here are some details on The Lone Ranger Ride for Justice Award, and more!

John Reid (Lone Ranger) and Tonto may be the on-screen heroes of Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ The Lone Ranger, which hits U.S. theaters on July 3, but there are off-screen heroes who do great things in communities across the country. Those individuals and organizations will be honored with The Lone Ranger Ride for Justice Award at 15 advance screenings of the upcoming film on June 24. The award is being given to those who stand up for justice, integrity and righteousness in their communities. Armie Hammer, who plays the Lone Ranger, will also make a surprise appearance at one of the local screenings to present an award. To nominate a hero, tweet their name to @LoneRanger with their city of residence and include #LRRideforJustice. For more information click here

Get ready to get active with the return of Disney TRYathlon on Disney XD! The two-part special, airing Monday, August 12 and Monday, August 19, will team Disney Channel and Disney XD stars with three kid viewers who won an online video contest at DisneyXD.com/TRYit by showcasing ways they stay healthy. Disney TRYathlon is part of Disney's TRYit campaign designed to inspire kids and families to try a variety of new foods, fun moves and simple ways to be their best.

And finally, to celebrate the world debut of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Get A Horse! at the Annecy Animation Festival in France this past Tuesday, we wanted to share the never-before-seen short’s brand new poster! Get A Horse! stars the one and only Mickey Mouse and features Walt Disney himself as the voice of the iconic character. The black-and-white, hand-drawn short follows Mickey, Minnie and their friends Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow as they delight in a musical wagon ride—until Peg-Leg Pete shows up and tries to run them off the road.
