A decade after its gates opened, Shanghai Disney Resort has grown into a beloved community and tourist destination — a place where countless guests of all ages from across Shanghai and around the world have embarked on unforgettable experiences filled with tremendous joy and wonder. Today, as the resort officially turned ten, tens of thousands of guests joined cast members in front of Shanghai Disneyland’s iconic Enchanted Storybook Castle for a special birthday celebration moment. Together their voices rose as one in the heartfelt chorus of “Happy Birthday,” celebrating a decade of happiness, wonder, inspiration and magic.
At the heart of the celebration was a special 10th Birthday moment featuring a giant birthday cake, with each layer beautifully representing the eight different themed lands of Shanghai Disneyland. The magic was brought to life by Disney performers and over 50 beloved Disney characters including Mickey and Friends, Duffy and Friends, Marvel Super Heroes, Disney Princesses, Disney and Pixar pals, and many more. As a special surprise, a group of cast representatives were invited to the stage, on behalf of all cast who have worked at the resort since its grand opening, to commemorate the historic and heartwarming 10-year milestone together. They earned warm, sustained applause from the audience in recognition of their decade-long dedication to bringing happiness and creating magical memories for guests.
Earlier this morning, Shanghai Disney Resort leadership, joined by cast members from teams across the resort, welcomed the first guests into Shanghai Disneyland on the day the resort officially turned ten.
The decade of magic and the countless happy faces has only been possible because of the hard work, passion, and dedication of Shanghai Disney Resort’s cast members and Imagineers. This morning, just before the opening of Shanghai Disneyland, thousands of these magic makers gathered on Mickey Avenue and in the Gardens of Imagination for a commemorative group photo, marking this special milestone. Josh D’Amaro, Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company; Thomas Mazloum, Chairman of Disney Experiences; Tasia Filippatos, President and Managing Director of Disney Parks International; and Andrew Bolstein, President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, joined the photo moment and cheered on the cast, recognizing their extraordinary contributions in bringing joy and unforgettable memories to guests over the past decade. Bob Iger, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company made a surprise appearance, making this moment even more commemorative.
