Nominations for the 2017 Primetime Emmy® Awards were announced this morning from the Television Academy’s Wolf Theatre at the Saban Media Center in North Hollywood. ABC’s media networks combined for a total of 52 nominations in a wide range of categories, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
ABC’s most-honored series for 2017 is Dancing with the Stars, which received seven nominations in categories that include Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming and Outstanding Hairstyling for a Multi-Camera Series or Special. The Oscars® was recognized in six categories, including Outstanding Special Class Program, and some of the talented actors in ABC series were also honored with Emmy® nominations. How to Get Away with Murder’s Viola Davis is a nominee for the third consecutive year (and won the Emmy in 2015), while the stars of black-ish—Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross—were honored for Outstanding Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, respectively. Felicity Huffman was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for American Crime, and her fellow cast member Regina King received an Emmy nod for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.
ESPN’s acclaimed documentary O.J.: Made in America received six Emmy nominations, including Exceptional Merit in Filmmaking, and the networks 30 for 30 series was recognized in the Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series category.
Both live-action and animated programming from Disney Channel were recognized this year, with the television movie Elena and the Secret Avalor nominated for Outstanding Animated Program and Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts nominated for both Outstanding Short Form Animated Program and Outstanding Music and Lyrics. Disney Channels Worldwide received eight nominations in all.
