Disney, Carrefour Announce Global Direct-To-Retail Agreement For New Disney-Branded Clothing & Accessories

BURBANK, Calif. — The Carrefour Group will produce and market an exclusive new line of Disney-branded children’s clothing and accessories under a global direct-to-retail licensing agreement announced today by Daniel Bernard, president and managing director of Carrefour, and Andy Mooney, president, Disney Consumer Products Worldwide.

Set to debut at Carrefour stores across 30 countries, including France, Italy, Mexico and Brazil beginning in October 2002, the fall-winter sportswear, under garments, pajamas and accessories for boys and girls up to age eight will feature beloved Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh and characters from upcoming Disney animated films.

“Carrefour continues innovating, using their in-depth knowledge of consumers to create quality products at competitive prices that bring the wonderful world of Disney to life,” said Bernard.

Added Mooney, “Carrefour’s reach and distribution as a global retailer will increase Disney’s worldwide apparel presence at retail. Our new relationship will allow both companies to further meet consumers needs with high quality, reasonably priced apparel that is fun for consumers to wear.”

Carrefour joins Disney Consumer Products distinguished list of direct-to-retail licensees, including: U.S. retailers Kmart and JCPenney; Canadian retailers Wal Mart and Zellers; U.K. retailer Tesco; Italian retailer Oviesse; Belgium retailer C&A (also covers Brazil); Sweden-based H&M and Nordic retailer Lindex. In addition, Disney has ongoing retail-licensee agreements with Belgium-based Donaldson and Italian retailer Pre-Natal.
