Disney Employees Help Sea Turtles Return to Their Natural Habitat

Recently, Disney Animal Programs cast members from Epcot’s The Seas with Nemo & Friends helped with the rescue of several cold-stunned Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles from Cape Cod Bay in Massachusetts. The turtles were just some of many that were rescued from the Northeastern cold snap this past fall, which left hundreds of the cold-blooded animals lethargic and immobilized. Since the turtles’ arrival last month, they have been sharing the backstage space at The Seas with Nemo & Friends where cast members conducted daily checks to keep an eye on the turtles’ progression and rehabilitation. The process to warm, rehabilitate and help the turtles regain their strength took several weeks, but success was achieved.

Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund Names 2014 Conservation Heroes

Protecting diamondback terrapin turtles in New Jersey. Leading a coral restoration program in the Caribbean. Conserving fruit bats in Madagascar. Sound like pretty interesting careers, right? Many people around the world have an unwavering passion and interest in protecting nature and its precious wildlife. Every year, the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) proudly honors these special individuals who dedicate their lives to preserving endangered species and wild places. Today, DWCF announced this year’s 19 Conservation Heroes, each of whom will receive a medal and a $1,500 award to share with the nonprofit organization that nominated them.

Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund Announces 2014 Grant Recipients and Surpasses $25 Million Giving Milestone

Connecting kids and families with nature not only provides an opportunity for discovery and learning, it also ignites their imaginations so they can develop lifelong conservation values—a quality that’s essential to creating a brighter tomorrow. That’s why the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) is such a special initiative. For nearly two decades, the granting program has supported projects that protect wildlife and bring people closer to the natural world we share. DWCF reached another milestone today as it named its 2014 conservation grant recipients, surpassing the $25 million mark in grants to date. The 141 organizations were selected based upon their efforts to study wildlife, protect habitats and develop community conservation and education programs in critical ecosystems.

Disney and National Park Foundation Collaborate to Support Parks Across the United States

Today may be the last day of April, but we’ll continue to celebrate and protect our planet beyond Earth Month here at Disney. As we wrap up this series on Disney Post, we thought it would be fun to give you an overview of the work we do with the National Park Foundation. For several years, Disney has collaborated with the organization to support parks across the country and the wildlife that call them “home.” We spoke to National Park Foundation President and CEO Neil Mulholland about our most recent project, "Bears," and how Disney has helped make a difference for national parks in the United States.

Disneynature's 'Bears' Roars into Theaters Today

From 1948–1960, Walt Disney was a pioneer in wildlife filmmaking and produced 13 True Life Adventure films, earning eight Academy Awards. In 2008, The Walt Disney Studios relaunched the tradition of bringing wildlife stories to audiences with Disneynature, the studio’s first new film label in more than 60 years.

Disney Conservation Heroes Honored for Efforts to Protect Wildlife and Habitats

Dedicated people around the world make strides every day to protect our planet. They commit their lives to conservation and share their passion with their communities.

Today, the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund is recognizing 14 of these inspiring individuals with this year’s Disney Conservation Hero award. Each recipient was nominated by a nonprofit and will share a $1,500 award with their nominating organization. Since 2004, Disney has honored 85 leaders. Meet this year’s heroes!
