Yesterday, Walt Disney World Resort announced it will serve as the official host of the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games, which will take place at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from June 5–11, 2022. The news came during a celebration ceremony held at the 220-acre sports complex, at which Special Olympics unveiled the 2022 USA Games’ official logo.
Continuing Disney and ESPN’s 34-year relationship with Special Olympics, Disney will also provide additional sponsorship and in-kind support for the 2022 USA Games and will serve as Presenting Partner for the Volunteer Program. ESPN will fill the role of Global Presenting Sponsor of Special Olympics Unified Sports.
“Special Olympics athletes provide inspiration to millions of people around the world,” said Rena Langley, senior vice president, Walt Disney World Public Affairs and Communications. “Competing at this level is an incredible achievement, one that requires tremendous commitment, dedication and leadership skills. As the presenting partner of the volunteer program, we’re honored and proud to support the friends, families and fans that will be here cheering on the athletes, and we’re excited to host the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.”
The 2022 USA Games coincide with the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics Florida. The Walt Disney World Resorts hosts Special Olympics Florida events every year, including the State Summer Games, the State Fall Classic and the State Golf Championships.
