Tokyo Disney Resort Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Major milestones are always worth commemorating, and that’s certainly the plan at theTokyo Disney Resort for its 30th anniversary. A year-long celebration kicked off today with a grand celebration at Tokyo Disney Resort.  You can read more about the event on the Disney Parks Blog.

Exactly 30 years ago today, our first guests walked through the gates of Tokyo Disneyland – our first international park.  Then in 2001, Tokyo DisneySea debuted, and the entire resort has since become Japan’s most popular family destination.

We’ve got so many special events on tap for the anniversary; guests will experience new attractions and entertainment – including the May debut of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue – along with specially designed collectibles, unique menu items, and some pretty great decor.

Here’s a look at some of the fun we have planned…

  • The 30th anniversary theme is “The Happiness Year,” and a new Tokyo Disneyland daytime parade will debut called Happiness is Here – starring Disney characters from throughout the years, including Goofy, Aladdin and Winnie the Pooh along with characters from Toy Story and Alice in Wonderland. True to the motif, the decorations around the Resort – including the monorail train and the main parade float – will feature plenty of colorful “Happiness Balloons.” In this commercial, Mickey, Minnie, and all their friends at Tokyo Disney Resort invite you to join the celebration:

    • One of the most exciting parts of the festivities is the May 7 debut of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue at Tokyo Disneyland. A complete renovation of the attraction that opened in 1989, the 3D intergalactic adventure takes space travelers for a journey through the Star Wars universe. There are more than 50 possible story combinations produced through the random selection of multiple scenarios that have been created for each of the scenes. Check out this high-flying teaser straight from Japan featuring everyone’s favorite villain, Darth Vader:

  • Dozens of anniversary items include lunch bags, Mickey ears, collectible spoons and children’s plates. Food and beverage offerings throughout the resort such as specialty desserts and buffet meals will also add to the fun, as will exclusive room amenities themed to the 30th anniversary celebration at the hotels.

We are proud to share this milestone accomplishment with all of our guests, Cast and Imagineers – congratulations, Tokyo Disney Resort!
