Seven Ways to Keep the Environment in Mind This Summer

Kids and families are at the heart of what we do here at Disney. That’s why connecting them to nature is an important part of our work, so that we can care for the world we share together. And with the arrival of summer, there’s no better time to strengthen bonds with the great outdoors.

As we settle into the season, here are some helpful tips to keep the environment top of mind and protect the planet as you make plans with your family and loved ones:

Green Your BBQ

Use reusable or biodegradable plates and utensils, and reusable napkins instead of paper napkins to reduce waste. When grilling, use gas, propane or electric grills, which burn more efficiently and cleaner than charcoal or wood.

Sun-Charged

When camping or at the beach, pack a solar charger or solar backpack to recharge a wide ranges of portable devices on solar energy.

Summer Stay-cation

Find local activities in or around your community with low environmental impacts—like a trip to the local park, woods, zoo or beach—to relax. Bonus points if you walk or bike to these fun activities!

Garden for Good

In your yard or garden, use native plants that can create habitats for local wildlife, and can also reduce water usage. Birdbaths, flowering plants, and bee houses are just a few ideas to set up a wildlife-friendly yard. You can also compost to reduce waste and provide nutrients to your soil.

Stay Hydrated

Remember to carry a reusable bottle or cup for beverages instead of using disposable bottles or paper cups.

Water-Wise Landscaping

Swapping out a standard hose nozzle for a sprinkler wand or soaker hose helps to reduce water waste. Or, better yet, decorate your landscape with succulents like agave, aloe vera or jade, which hardly require any water at all.

Air Conditioning Use

Keep your thermostat up, open windows and use natural ventilation when possible.
