San Fransokyo Square Opens Its Gates to the World of ‘Big Hero 6’

Welcome to San Fransokyo Square at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif.!

The exciting transformation at Disney California Adventure Park—which opens today—is not just home to the characters of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Big Hero 6—including the heroic and inflatable Baymax—but thanks in part to Disney Imagineers and the Disneyland Resort culinary team the plaza also has diverse and fantastical locales and tastes that bring guests right into the beloved world of the 2014 Academy Award®-winning film.

“The very first thing I did was concept work for the San Fransokyo Gate Bridge,” Imagineer Michael Dobrzycki—art director of San Fransokyo Square—said. “It’s such an iconic piece of architecture from the movie that it was important to really help establish that you were in an entirely new world.”

Don Hall—the director of Big Hero 6—said creating the film was a dream come true since growing up he loved Disney Animation and comics, and that with this film he was able to “indulge both of those passions.”

“To see it now realized in physical form, I’m blown away,” he added.
