Marvel Studios’ Eternals is off to a strong start at the global box office. Directed by Academy Award® winner Chloé Zhao, the film opened at No. 1 in all key markets for an estimated $161.7 million global weekend. Domestically, the film earned $71.0 million. The Marvel Cinematic Universe films Black Widow, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings and Eternals collectively account for three of the top four pandemic era opening weekends.
Internationally, Eternals earned an additional $90.7 million in its opening weekend. It marks the highest opening weekend during the pandemic era in Italy, Brazil and Hong Kong, and the second highest opening weekend during the pandemic era in Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Sweden, Argentina, Central America, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Paraguay and Uruguay. It also marks the highest opening weekend for a non-local film during the pandemic era in Korea. Eternals will open in Russia today and this weekend in Indonesia and United Arab Emirates.
Produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, Eternals follows a group of Super Heroes from beyond the stars who had protected the Earth since the dawn of man. When monstrous creatures called the Deviants, long thought lost to history, mysteriously return, the Eternals are forced to reunite in order to defend humanity once again. The international cast includes Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie.
