As David mentioned earlier this month, Disney VoluntEARS have given more than 7.5 million hours of their time in service since 1983. This month, businesses from all around The Walt Disney Company are celebrating this remarkable 30th anniversary milestone in their own unique way. Disney/ABC Television Group (DATG) is no exception.
At an event on May 12, Foster Care Counts—a non-profit dedicated to bettering the lives of foster children and families in Los Angeles—brought together 2,000 members of the city’s foster care system for its 4th Annual Foster Mother’s Day Celebration. The invited foster youth and their families took part in a day filled with fun, entertainment, food, relaxation and pampering.
This year, DATG made the event extra special by donating a huge amount of Disney Channel and ABC Family wardrobes to the worthy cause. The garments were part of a special clothing boutique giving guests the opportunity to take home new and gently used clothing for themselves and their families.
Not only were dozens of DATG VoluntEARS on hand to support the event and make all the guests feel special, but so was the cast of the new ABC Family show about a foster family,The Fosters. The show’s stars brought along their stylists and make-up artists, who spent time pampering the families with makeovers. K-ABC 7 also covered the event for their local newscast.
DATG’s work with Foster Care Counts is the perfect example of how this company uses its resources to make a difference in so many lives. Here’s to 30 more years of Disney VoluntEARS!
