My favorite Family Volunteer Day tradition is to join fellow Disney VoluntEARS at the Orange County Food Bank in California to pack food boxes for those in need.
Today is that day, and Disney VoluntEARS across the country are donating their time to local nonprofits and projects. Family Volunteer Day, a Points of Light event, is held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving to kick off the holiday season with giving and service.
For years, Disney VoluntEARS and their families have participated. For example, this year in Connecticut, ESPN employees are packing food kits for seniors. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, VoluntEARS and their families are sorting and packing food boxes at Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
Disney’s Friends for Change is an official sponsor of the day, inspiring families to volunteer together and make a difference in their communities. As part of Disney’s Friends for Change support, Radio Disney stations are visiting volunteer sites to provide entertainment and participate in service projects.
Today kicks off a season of giving! From raking your elderly neighbor’s lawn to hosting a coat drive, there are lots of ways to show you care. Check out this online action kit for more ideas about how your family can give back this holiday season.
