Disney Takes Part in Family Volunteer Day

This past weekend, thousands of families across the country rolled up their sleeves to take part in Family Volunteer Day. From beach cleanups to food drives, participants lent a hand to perform acts of service that helped those in need.

Hosted by Points of Light and sponsored by Disney Friends for Change, Family Volunteer Day has been held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving for more than two decades. The annual event also kicks off the holiday season with giving and service, encouraging families to volunteer together to help strengthen their communities.

In my hometown, more than 200 Disney VoluntEARS, Disney Channel and Disney XD stars, local kids and families participated in a Muppets-themed day of service at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. The team worked together to sort more than 96,000 pounds of fresh produce.

Disney has worked closely with Points of Light for more than 20 years, helping kids and families to develop a lifelong love of service and to show kids how their own actions can make a real difference.
