With so many business units—from Parks and Resorts to Media Networks to Consumer Products and everything in between—working at The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) means infinite opportunities to collaborate with partners and colleagues you don’t interact with every day and create experiences that go above and beyond guest expectations. – See more at: https://thewaltdisneycompany.com/blog/disney-synergy-brings-magic-life-your-hands#sthash.n4ubDpGq.dpuf
In particular, digital apps have created synergistic opportunities for Disney Publishing; looking at the App Store, you will immediately see best-in-class entertainment, book and educational apps as a result of the collaborative environment that TWDC fosters. At the top of the ranks are Disney Princess Palace Pets, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Paint and Play, La Luna, Jake’s Never Land Shapes and Patterns and more. Each of these apps was a result of the passion, creativity and collaboration of team members in the Disney Publishing digital group—a business unit that develops storybook apps—and their partners across TWDC.
From day one, app producers work lockstep with creative counterparts to bring to life magical interactive experiences that span Disney’s beloved franchises. Through a “One DCP” mindset, Disney Princess Palace Pets was developed as an extension of the Disney Princess franchise. Inspired by the Disney Princess characters’ affinity for animals in their classic stories and girls’ play pattern of nurturing, Palace Pets is an immersive and engaging addition to the Disney Princess world. Through synergy across Disney Consumer Products’ lines of business from publishing, licensing, creative and product development, the teams created a rich back story for each pet and a corresponding product line of figures, plush and playsets that allows girls to nurture and pamper their Palace Pets just like the Disney Princess characters. To date, the Disney Princess Palace Pets app has garnered nearly two million downloads and the products have been received positively by consumers and media and have been recognized by industry experts as some of the season’s hottest holiday toys.
In Fantasyland: Break the Curse, Disney Publishing and Disney Parks & Resorts worked tirelessly to ensure consumers experienced the full back story of the recently expanded New Fantasyland at Walt Disney World. The teams’ were tasked with capturing the legend behind New Fantasyland through what is essentially a 3D pop-up book that features 22 pages of animated interactive story pages, activities and rewards. This “One Disney” mindset has allowed them to bring a magical experience into the homes of families around the world – engaging them in New Fantasyland’s story in a whole new immersive way. Fantasyland: Break the Curse also features some of our favorite Disney friends including Maurice and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast and Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid!
Both Fantasyland: Break the Curse and Disney Princess Palace Pets are available now for free on iTunes. Stay tuned… this is only the beginning; there is more to come from Disney Publishing!
