Disney Supports Toys for Tots to Spread Holiday Cheer

A new toy goes a long way in brightening a child’s day during the holidays. So much so that Disney made a $150,000 donation to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots Foundation, a nonprofit that collects new toys and distributes them as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children. A portion of the donation — $100,000 — helped families impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

In addition to the donation, teams across Disney hosted toy drives to spread some holiday cheer. This year, more than 50,000 toys were collected.

Radio Disney hosted more than 30 events around the country for its second annual “Festival of Giving,” providing a convenient way for families to make a donation to Toys for Tots and several other organizations. “Festival of Giving” is part of Radio Disney’s Project Family initiative that inspires families to spend time together to make a positive change at home and in their communities.

Disney VoluntEARS from Disney, ABC and ESPN also hosted toy drives in Los Angeles, Anaheim, Orlando, Bristol, New York and other sites around the country to collect thousands of new toys for children in those communities. VoluntEARS will also donate their time to help sort and deliver many of the toys.

Disney’s involvement with Toys for Tots is a tradition that dates back more than 64 years, when Walt Disney and his animators personally designed the original Toys for Tots train logo that is still in use today.
