Disney Receives Corporate Impact Award from Advancing Justice—LA

Asian Americans Advancing Justice—Los Angeles (Advancing Justice—LA) recently recognized The Walt Disney Company with its Corporate Impact Award. The award acknowledges Disney’s ongoing commitment to telling inclusive stories and creating respectful workplaces.

The organization—the largest legal and civil rights organization for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) in the U.S.—serves thousands of individuals and organizations through advocacy, leadership development and other community services.

“Disney has been a wonderful partner for many years,” said Stewart Kwoh, president and executive director, Advancing Justice—LA. “Their commitment to inclusion is central to what they do, not just an add-on.”

Latondra Newton, senior vice president and chief diversity officer for The Walt Disney Company, accepted the award at the organization’s 34th anniversary dinner in Los Angeles. “Storytelling is the most powerful way to connect people of different backgrounds and through telling diverse stories we can understand, inspire and motivate each other,” said Newton. “While we are excited about the creative and innovative work our teams are doing today, we know there is always more to do. That’s why we continue to focus on providing respectful and inclusive workplaces and strengthening our communities through grants and volunteer service.”

Telling stories that engage and entertain audiences around the world is the highest priority across all of Disney’s businesses. This award recognizes the Company for consistently building teams and developing stories that reflect many communities, including series like Andi Mack, The Good Doctor and Elena of Avalor; films like Moana, Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnorak and Star Wars: The Last Jedi; and experiences for guests that make lifetime memories.
