‘Ant-Man and The Wasp‘ Opens Big; ‘Incredibles 2‘ Sets Record

Marvel Studios’ smallest heroes delivered big returns as Ant-Man and the Wasp debuted with $75.8 million domestically, becoming the Studios’ 20th straight No. 1 box-office opening. That debut is approximately 33 percent ahead of the first Ant-Man, which opened with $57.2 million in 2015.

Internationally, Ant-Man and The Wasp collected an estimated $85 million from about 48 percent of the marketplace, which is approximately 45 percent ahead of the first Ant-Man, bringing the global opening weekend to an estimated $161.7 million. It opened across key parts of Asia, the whole of Latin America and mainly smaller markets within Europe. Those impressive numbers bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s combined global box office to more than $17 billion across 20 films.

But Marvel wasn’t the only studio delivering heroic numbers. Disney•Pixar’s Incredibles 2 passed Finding Dory this weekend to become Pixar’s top-grossing film domestically. Sailing past the $500 million mark domestically, it is the first animated film ever to reach that mark and just the 12th film ever to do so. Incredibles 2 has now grossed more than $780 million worldwide.
