Last night on The Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, Disney VoluntEARS gathered for the culmination of the program’s month-long 30th anniversary celebration. As part of the event, 30 nonprofits visited the Studio lot. The nonprofits were thanked for the work they do and had an opportunity to share how Disney VoluntEARS can continue to get involved with their cause.
The highlight of the event was a special recognition ceremony — followed by music and food — to recognize the company’s top VoluntEARS. Disney Interactive Co-President Jimmy Pitaro was named Executive VoluntEAR of the Year, our newest group — the skills-based VoluntEARS — were named Los Angeles-area VoluntEAR Team of the Year, and the title of VoluntEAR of the Year for the Los Angeles area was given to Ginger Mort from Disney Store for her longstanding dedication to several local nonprofits.
During the ceremony Ginger shared, “Not only does Disney encourage volunteering but it applauds us for it. The company has truly given me the opportunity to do what I love to do.” She continued with a message to co-workers, “There are 30 charities here tonight. I encourage you to find one you’re passionate about and get involved.”
As a fellow VoluntEAR, it was inspiring to reflect on the program’s first 30 years and I look forward to next 30 years! Check back next week for a fun look at photos we gathered from VoluntEARS around the world over the past month.
