Today we are proud to announce our 2013 Disney Legend Award recipients! These honorees are people whose imagination, talents and dreams have contributed to the success of The Walt Disney Company. The program was established in 1997 with a ceremony held at Disneyland Paris — commemorating the 5th anniversary of the park and honoring those who helped establish many of the Disney European businesses.
The Disney Legend Award was created in 1987 by Andrea Favilli — who also sculpted the iconic “Partners” statue at Disney parks around the world. The award consists of three parts — the spiral, which stands for imagination and the power of an idea — the hand, which holds the gift of skill, discipline and craftsmanship — and the wand and star, which represent magic and the spark that is ignited when imagination and skill is combined.
On October 16, 1998, Disney Legends Plaza was dedicated at The Walt Disney Studios. It features bronze plaques representing the 258 luminaries who have entered the prestigious circle of Disney Legends — our company’s highest honor.
This year’s honorees, to be celebrated during a special ceremony at the D23 Expo, supremely represent the diversity of talent and disciplines within The Walt Disney Company — including masters of animation, film and imagineering. To see this year’s honorees check out D23.com.
Congratulations to this year’s recipients!
