Disney, HHI and ARRI Win Lumiere Award for New 3D Camera System

Last night The Walt Disney Studios was recognized alongside German research firm Fraunhofer Heinreich Hertz Institute (HHI) and camera company ARRI by the International 3D & Advanced Imaging Society, which awarded the prestigious Lumiere Award to the companies for their TriFocal Camera System. The joint venture between the Studio and the two technological companies was an effort to find an easier way to film a 3D movie. The solution came in the form of a smaller, lighter—and thus easier-to-handle—camera rig that brings three individual cameras together in a more focused and compact environment.

'The Lion King' Stage Musical Surpasses $6.2 Billion Worldwide

Another box office crown for "The Lion King," as the acclaimed stage musical recently achieved a worldwide gross of more than $6.2 billion over the course of its 17 years playing across stages in 19 countries! No other piece of entertainment has been more successful at the box office in any medium. (Previously, the titleholder was "The Phantom of the Opera," which has earned $6 billion globally.)

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs recently announced that construction is starting at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand-new "Frozen" attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. The new attraction replaces "Maelstrom" and will take guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film.
