Disney News This Week: New 'The Lone Ranger' Trailer, Walt Disney Studios Passes $2 Billion, Disney Publishing Launches New App

Here are some quick updates that we haven’t yet shared on the Disney Post from the week of December 9:
New Trailer for Disney’s The Lone Ranger Released — Walt Disney Studio Motion Pictures released a new trailer for The Lone Ranger this week. The upcoming film, starring Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as John Reid, hits US theaters on July 3, 2013 and reunites the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Studio Passes $2 Billion at International Box Office — At the end of November, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (WDSMP) crossed the $2 billion mark in international box office grosses for the third consecutive year. WDSMP reached the $1 billion mark at the domestic box office July 8, the first studio to reach that plateau this year. Success at the box office this year was driven by a strong line-up of films including, The Avengers, Brave and Wreck-It Ralph.
Disney Publishing Worldwide Launches Numbers with Nemo App — Disney Publishing recently released Numbers with Nemo, a new Disney Learning educational app that helps children practice essential early math skills. Players join their undersea friends in fun-filled activities and games that reinforce early math skills such as counting, tracing numbers, matching the number of objects in different groups, number identification and sequencing. Disney Wins at the British Academy Children’s Awards 2012 — Disney received 10 nominations for this year’s prestigious British Academy Children’s Awards 2012 (BAFTA). Phineas and Ferb, The Muppets, Where’s My Water? and other favorite Disney movies, games and shows received nods for multiple categories. The evening’s big winner was Disney Channel’s hit series Good Luck Charlie, receiving the coveted BAFTA Kids’ Vote in the TV category for the second year in a row. Now in its third season in the UK, Good Luck Charlie premiered on British television screens in 2011 and was Disney Channel’s best live action launch.
