Disney News This Week: ESPN Commits $1 Million for Cancer Research, 'Sofia the First' Animated Series Debuts January 11, Disney Stores 'Share the Magic'

Here are some quick updates that we haven’t yet shared on the Disney Post from the week of November 18:
ESPN Commits $1 Million Donation to The V Foundation for Cancer Research — This week, ESPN announced a $1 million commitment to The V Foundation for Cancer Research. In addition, ESPN’s sixth annual Jimmy V Week for Cancer Research, a multiplatform initiative featured on ESPN networks and social platforms, tipped off November 27 and will conclude on December 3 and 4. Viewers and fans can join ESPN and donate to The V Foundation by calling 1-800-4-JIMMY-V, visiting jimmyv.org or texting JimmyV to #80888. Sofia the First Animated Series to Premiere on Disney Channel and Disney Junior in January — Following the November 18 release of the TV movie, Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess, a new animated series featuring the adventurous little girl will premiere January 11 on Disney Channel and Disney Junior. The TV movie was introduced to a record 5.2 million total viewers on Disney Channel, becoming the #1 cable TV telecast of 2012 among children aged 2-5 and girls aged 2-5. It also ranked as the #1 cable TV telecast in 5 years in kids 2-5. Watch the trailer for the upcoming series here.
Disney Stores “Share the Magic” with Local Charities in Europe — For the third consecutive year, Disney Store is continuing its “Share the Magic” initiative by donating 10,000 soft toys to local children’s charities in seven countries across Europe. From November 12 to December 1, guests are able to participate in “Share the Magic” by mailing a letter to Santa through their local Disney Store or via Disney Store’s international websites. The Land of Oz Comes to Life at Walt Disney World this Spring — Guests visiting the 2013 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival at Walt Disney World this spring can enter the Land of Oz in the form of an original interactive play area that will be one of the festival’s newest additions. The circus-themed area, inspired by Disney’s upcoming fantastical adventure, Oz The Great and Powerful, will offer carnival-style midway games and a “Land of Oz Play Area” where The Great and Powerful Oz’s crashed hot-air balloon can be found. Guests will also be able to wander through the “Oz Movie Garden,” which will feature lush, unusual plants inspired by the Land of Oz. Read the Disney Parks Blog to learn more.
