Disney News This Week: 'Newsies' Celebrates Second Anniversary, ESPN Earns 46 Sports Emmy Nominations, Big Thunder Mountain Re-Opens at Disneyland and More

"Newsies," the Tony® Award-winning "Critics' Pick" originally announced for 101 performances in 2012 and now approaching its 900th performance, celebrates two years on Broadway tomorrow, March 29, at the Nederlander Theatre. Since bursting onto Broadway, "Newsies" has set and broken seven Nederlander Theatre house records on its way to becoming the highest grossing show of the 2011-12 Broadway season. The show received 23 major theatrical nominations—including eight Tony Award nods—and won Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Score and Choreography.

Disney News This Week: Disney and Dish Network Distribution Deal, ABC's Oscars Scores Most-Watched Telecast Since 2004 and More

Earlier this week, Disney and DISH Network Corporation announced a groundbreaking, long-term and wide-ranging distribution agreement that will provide DISH customers with access to Disney’s robust lineup of top quality sports, news and entertainment content across televisions, computers, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles and connected devices. The renewal agreement supports the companies’ mutual goal to deliver the best video content to customers across multiple platforms. This also strengthens the value of the multichannel video subscription and creates the opportunity for DISH to deliver new services in the future.

Disney News This Week: Lucasfilm and Marvel Join Forces to Publish 'Star Wars' Comics, 'Frozen' Crosses $500 Million in Worldwide Box Office, Rose and Fiesta Bowls on ESPN

Just this morning, Lucasfilm and Marvel Entertainment released their first big announcement for 2014. The two are joining forces to bring new "Star Wars" adventures, with Marvel granted exclusive rights to create and publish "Star Wars" comics and graphic novels beginning in 2015. In fact, the agreement marks a homecoming for the "Star Wars" comic books. If you didn’t know, Marvel Comics published the first "Star Wars" comic book, "Star Wars" #1, in March 1977, which went on to sell more than 1 million copies. Thereafter, Marvel Comics published its "Star Wars" series for nine years.
