Disney News This Week: Walt Disney Animation Studios Announces 'Frozen Fever,' First Look at 'Lava,' Casting Announced for North American Tour of Disney's 'Newsies'

Walt Disney Animation Studios announced a new animated short titled "Frozen Fever," which will welcome back to the big screen Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf, for spring 2015. Directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, and produced by Peter Del Vecho, with an all-new original song by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Frozen Fever marks the first project reuniting the Oscar®-winning original team from Disney’s "Frozen." It'll be Anna’s birthday in the short, and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever. But Elsa’s icy powers may put more than just the party at risk.

Disney's 'The Lion King' Coming to Shanghai Disney Resort, ESPN and Google Collaborate for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Josh Trank to Direct Stand-Alone 'Star Wars' Film

Shanghai Disney Resort and Disney Theatrical Productions announced today that Disney’s landmark musical event, "The Lion King," is coming to the Walt Disney Grand Theatre—a new, world-class, 1,200-seat Broadway-style theater, to be located at Shanghai Disney Resort’s retail, dining and entertainment area—currently under construction adjacent to Shanghai Disneyland park. This will be the world’s first production of "The Lion King"—Julie Taymor's production, exactly as seen on Broadway and in productions around the world—performed in Mandarin.

An In-depth Look at International Disney Theatrical Productions

At this point, one could say the sun never sets on Disney Theatrical Productions, with about 15 productions playing around the world on any given night. Our international expansion began shortly after the 1994 Broadway debut of Beauty and the Beast, with a production of that show in Melbourne the following year. We’ve now staged shows in over 20 countries.
